The HSA (Home School Association) is made up of all the wonderful parents and staff who are committed to fundraising for our school.
St. Mary’s Home School Association (HSA) is a registered charity (No. 1030404) and subject to the rules of the Charity Commission for England & Wales. It was established in 1992 and is our version of a Parent Teacher Association.
Why and What do we do? It was created with the aim to advance the education of the pupils by:
i) developing the relationship between staff and parents
ii) engaging in activities that support the school, and
iii) assist the provision of facilities for education at the school (not normally provided by the Local Education Authority)
In other words to raise cash to contribute to the school by buying / providing resources that the school’s budget cannot. For many years now we have aimed to raise at least £10,000, all of which goes back into the school. For example, some of the many ways we have helped are:
New IT Suite; provision of IPads; Climbing Frame; new stage blocks and lighting; continual updating of school library books; Forest School enhancements.
How do we do this? By running both fundraising events and coordinating volunteers, who help run a number of vital activities.
Who belongs to the HSA? We all do, from the minute you join the St Mary’s School family. Every parent/carer of each child in school, plus all members of staff.
How do I become more involved? Every half term the HSA has a committee meeting, to which you are all invited. The meetings are held at the school and last no more than 90 minutes.
However, you don’t need to attend meetings to be involved: each school year the HSA organises a whole host of events including discos, quizzes, special events and evenings and all of these require volunteers.
In short, we need as much or as little of your time as you can spare.
We are not professional fundraisers, we are just a group of parents/carers trying to make a difference to and for the children of St Mary’s School – why not come and help us!
